Marathon of the Minds

The application deadline is quickly approaching for a technology, math and logic contest for high school students. Marathon of the Mind, sponsored by BU's department of computer and management information systems, is open to high school seniors, juniors, and sophomores with advanced standing. High school officials may nominate up to eight students to participate in the competition. The deadline for nominations is Thursday, Feb. 15.

School officials must provide information on each student, including name, address, city, state zip code, class standing, phone number and e-mail address. Nomination forms must also include the name and mailing address of the high school and the name, phone number, fax number, and e-mail of the nominating official. There is no cost to enter.

The first round of the contest will be administered online at each of the competing schools. The winners from the first round will then participate in the second round competition at Bloomsburg University on Saturday, March 24. Prizes, including a $1,000 savings bond for first place, a $500 savings bond for second place and certificates of merit, will be awarded after the second round of the contest. While the cash prizes are based on individual performance, a trophy for the winning school will also be awarded based on the composite performance of the participants in the second round. Nominations may be submitted by e-mail to the Marathon of the Mind director, Dr. Appa Rao Korukonda of BU's Computer and Management Information Systems department, at akorukon@bloomu.edu or by fax at (570) 389-2071. For more information on the contest, contact Dr. Korukonda at (570) 389-4773.
